What Is ADAS Calibration – and Why It’s Not Optional

Nearly every vehicle built since 2016 has Advanced Driver Assistance Systems: automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise, blind-spot monitoring. These systems rely on cameras and radar aimed with surgical precision – a camera off by one degree can misread the road by several feet at highway speed. Vehicle manufacturers require recalibration after anything that changes that aim:

• Windshield replacement – the camera behind the glass moved (many glass installers skip this)
• Wheel alignment – thrust-angle changes shift what “straight ahead” means to the camera
• Suspension work, lift/leveling kits, ride-height changes
• Collision repair – even minor front-end hits that touch bumpers, grilles, or mirrors where sensors live

Static vs. Dynamic – What Your Vehicle Needs

Static calibration happens in the shop: precisely-positioned targets, level floor, exact OEM measurements – this is what the DAS3000’s guided camera system perfects. Dynamic calibration is a structured road test where the system relearns while driving. Many vehicles require one, some require both; your manufacturer decides, not us. We scan your VIN, pull the exact procedure, and quote it straight.

Do I need calibration after a windshield replacement?

If your vehicle has a camera behind the glass (lane-keep, auto-braking, adaptive cruise – most 2016+ vehicles), the manufacturer requires it. Many glass installers don’t do it. We’ll scan your vehicle, tell you exactly what it needs, and calibrate to factory procedure with a printed report.

My safety systems seem fine – do I still need it?

Usually there’s no warning light when a camera is mis-aimed – the system just sees the road wrong and reacts late or wrong when you need it most. That’s why manufacturers tie calibration to the repair event, not to symptoms.

How long does ADAS calibration take?

Typically 1-2 hours depending on how many systems your vehicle has and the manufacturer’s procedure. Most jobs are same-day, and we’ll give you a time estimate when you book.

Will insurance cover it?

When calibration is required as part of a covered repair (collision, windshield), insurers routinely pay for it – that’s exactly why we document to OEM procedure with pre/post scans and a printed report. We’re happy to coordinate with your shop or adjuster.

Can you calibrate my truck after a lift or leveling kit?
