The damage behind the panel

A bumper cover takes the hit. Behind it sit the absorber, the reinforcement bar, the crash sensors and often the radiator support. A door skin can look straight while the hinge pillar is out. A parts list written off a photograph is a parts list that grows twice, so we take the cover off and look first.

Repair or replace, and why

Not every damaged panel needs replacing. Steel that has creased once can usually be worked back. Aluminium, high-strength steel and any panel with a sensor bonded to it often cannot be, and forcing it is how a panel comes back wavy six months later. Our I-CAR Gold Class training is the difference between guessing that and knowing it.

Who actually picks the part

Three kinds of part can go on your car after a collision: new from the manufacturer, aftermarket, and recycled, which is a sound used part off a donor vehicle. Which one you get is usually decided by your policy, not by the shop. Ask your adjuster which your policy pays for before the repair starts, and ask us what the difference will look like on your car. You will get a straight answer either way.

Why some parts need replacing even when they look fine

A part can be weakened without showing it. Brackets bend, mounting points crack, and a sensor that took an impact may still report a fault later. If a part is compromised we will tell you, because a part that fails after the repair is not a saving.
