Hail Damage Repair in Rowlett, TX
Hail damage repair puts the dents back out of your panels without replacing them, and on most hail cars it is done without repainting. If the paint is unbroken, that is paintless dent repair. If the paint cracked or a panel is creased too far, it needs body and paint work. We do both here at 3002 Century Dr in Rowlett, and we will tell you which one your car needs before you commit to anything.
Justin Cole, owner, on how hail damage gets handled here.
What size hail actually damages a car
Damage starts at about one inch across. For scale, a golf ball is roughly 1.7 inches and a tennis ball is roughly 2.7 inches. North Texas storms reach both.
At an inch and up, expect dents on the hood, roof and trunk lid — the flat panels take the worst of it — along with chipped or cracked paint and broken trim or lamp covers. Under about an inch you can still get marks on a soft or older clearcoat. That is worth a look, but it is often less than a deductible.
Diameter is not the whole story. Wind angle matters as much as size: hail driven sideways hits doors and quarter panels that straight-down hail never touches. It is why two cars from the same storm, parked a street apart, come back with very different estimates — and why the only honest answer to “how bad is it?” comes from looking at the car.
What to do during the storm, and in the first hour after
While it is falling, get the car under something. A fuel station canopy, covered parking, a garage. An overpass works only if you can pull completely clear of the lane. Stopping in live traffic during a hailstorm is how a dent claim becomes a collision claim.
Minutes decide it. A car left in the open through the heaviest few minutes of a storm collects most of its damage in that window.
Once it passes, photograph the car before you move it. Roof, hood, trunk lid and each side, in daylight if you can. Those photos are what settles any later disagreement about what the storm did and what was already there. Then read the section below on the insurance side before you call anyone.
What hail repair costs, and what decides it
Paintless dent repair runs $150 to $1,500. A single door ding sits at the bottom of that range. A car worked over by a storm sits at the top. Once the paint is broken or cracked the panel has to be refinished, which is a different job with a different number.
Three things move the price: how many panels were hit, how deep the deepest dents are, and where they landed. Dents along a body line or on the edge of a panel take longer than the same dent in the middle of a door. Aluminum panels, which a lot of newer trucks and hoods use, hold their shape differently to steel and take more time to work. Your estimate is free and in writing before anything starts.
When paintless dent repair works, and when it does not
This is the honest part most hail pages skip. Paintless dent repair is the better outcome when it is available: it keeps your factory paint, which is worth real money at resale, and it is faster and cheaper than refinishing.
It stops being an option when the paint is cracked, when a dent is stretched too far for the metal to return, or when the damage sits somewhere the tools cannot reach behind. Convertible and soft tops, and some aluminum panels, also change the answer. A shop that only does paintless dent repair has one tool for your car. We do dent work and full body and paint under one roof, so the recommendation you get here is not limited by what we happen to offer.
The insurance side: deductible, adjuster, and who picks the shop
Hail is a comprehensive claim, so your comprehensive deductible applies. That amount is due when you pick the car up, even when your insurer pays the rest. If your deductible is high, we offer financing so it does not have to come out of one paycheck.
Your insurer will usually send an adjuster, or ask for photos, and write an estimate. That first estimate often misses damage that only shows under proper light on a lift. When we find more, we document it and submit a supplement. That is normal on hail work and it is not a fight.
In Texas, you choose the shop. Your insurance company can recommend one, and many run direct-repair programs that move the paperwork along faster, but the decision is yours. We are a State Farm Select Service shop, which is State Farm’s direct-repair program that shops have to apply to join, and we work with most major insurance companies. Being in the program means a State Farm claim moves faster. It does not mean you have to use us.
Will hail total my car?
It can, and it happens more often than people expect. An insurer compares the cost of repair against what the vehicle is worth. Hail hits every horizontal panel at once, so the repair bill on an older car can pass its value even though the car drives perfectly and the damage is entirely cosmetic.
If that happens you are usually offered a settlement, and in Texas you can often keep the vehicle and take a reduced payout instead. That is a decision worth making with the real repair number in front of you rather than a guess. We will give you that number free, whether or not you have us do the work.

The warranty on hail repair
Hail repair is collision work, so it carries the same lifetime warranty as every other collision repair we do: bodywork, parts and paint, covering both the parts we install and our labor, for the life of the vehicle. It transfers if you sell the car, and whoever owns it needs the original invoice. It is the same warranty whether the job is insurance, self-pay or through a direct-repair program.
What it does not cover. Rust and corrosion are excluded, including surface rust, rust perforation, and corrosion from pre-existing conditions, aging metal, rock chips, road salt or weather exposure. If a panel we repaired is damaged again and someone else repairs it, coverage on that panel ends. Full terms are on our warranty page.
Hail damage questions, answered
How long does hail repair take?
It depends on panel count and whether paint is involved, and after a big storm it also depends on how many cars came in that week. A light paintless job can be days. A car needing panels refinished is longer. We give you a real date at the estimate rather than a hopeful one.
Should I file a claim, or pay out of pocket?
Get the estimate first. If the repair lands close to your deductible, filing may not be worth it. If it is well above, the claim usually makes sense. We will give you the number so you can do that math before you call anyone.
Does hail damage hurt resale value?
Unrepaired hail damage does, visibly. A proper repair does not show. This is the strongest argument for paintless dent repair where it is possible, because keeping the factory paint keeps the car’s history clean.
My car still drives fine. Is it worth fixing?
Usually yes, and not for looks. Dented panels sit differently, and cracked paint on a dent lets water at bare metal, which starts rust that the warranty will not cover. Fixing it while the paint is intact is the cheapest version of the job you will ever be offered.
Do you handle the claim paperwork?
We write the estimate, document the damage, and submit supplements when we find more than the first estimate caught. The claim itself stays between you and your insurer, and being a Select Service shop means State Farm work moves through faster.
