Fuel Injector Replacement Cost

Updated October 2, 2026

Fuel injector replacement averages $768-$953 in RepairPal’s national estimate, with $464-$507 in parts and $304-$446 in labor, before taxes, fees and location adjustments. Your bill depends on the vehicle, injector quantity and access. Confirm whether the quote covers one injector or a set, plus required seals and any application-specific coding.

Use an estimate that names the failed injector and the scope of the repair. Then compare the extra cost of replacing additional injectors during the same access work. Check manufacturer coverage before approving an out-of-pocket repair.

How much does fuel injector replacement cost?

The RepairPal national estimate was updated September 3, 2026 and checked October 2. Treat its published $768-$953 total as a reference for the named service. The national headline establishes neither a universal per-injector price nor a full-set price for every engine.

Two exact-year pages show materially different breakdowns. Both show a September 3, 2026 estimate update, exclude taxes and fees, do not adjust for your location, and allow for related repairs. Their headlines do not specify engine variant or replacement quantity.

Exact-year named service Parts, USD Labor, USD Published total, USD
2018 Honda Civic fuel injector replacement About $146 $159-$233 $304-$378
2018 Toyota Camry fuel injector replacement About $535 $488-$716 $1,023-$1,251

Use the published totals rather than adding rounded component figures yourself. Match your VIN, engine and injector count before comparing your quote with either entry. These pages do not establish that every 2018 Civic repair falls below every Camry repair.

Why do direct-injection estimates include more than the injector?

The installed part needs application-correct sealing and service work. Bosch’s gasoline-system documentation distinguishes intake-manifold injectors from high-pressure injectors. It describes the high-pressure injector’s Teflon sealing ring at the cylinder head.

Bosch’s BTG 5120 factsheet also identifies the combustion-chamber seal, O-ring and decoupling elements serviced on its covered high-pressure injection valves. Those are Bosch application examples, not a parts list for every vehicle. Ask which seals, support parts and tools your engine’s procedure requires.

Quote item Question to ask
Injector Exact part number, quantity and compatibility
Sealing parts Which rings or seals the procedure requires
Access parts Which gaskets or components are disturbed
Fuel-system hardware Which lines or fasteners require replacement
Coding or adaptation Whether this engine requires it and whether included
Final checks How operation and leakage will be checked afterward

Bosch’s GDI service brochure describes injector coding where required. Ask about your application specifically; coding is a scope question, not an automatic charge to accept on every injector job.

Should I replace one fuel injector or all of them?

Ask for a repair based on testing, then price any additional injectors separately. RepairPal’s diagnosis guidance says the suspected injectors must be tested and may need removal for bench testing. A cylinder-specific misfire points the investigation toward that cylinder but does not supply the finished parts list.

For a set recommendation, ask which injectors have failed, which are proposed preventively, and whether the manufacturer’s procedure or parts supply requires a particular combination. Have the shop explain the recommendation using your engine, test results and replacement part numbers.

Your comparison What to request
Confirmed repair total Failed injector quantity, required seals, access and testing
Added injectors Extra parts price and the reason for each
Added installation work Incremental labor while access is available
Required follow-up Any additional coding/adaptation and checks
Expanded repair total Confirmed total plus only the additional charges

Choose the smaller repair when testing and the application support it and the additional work offers little value to you. Consider a set when its technical reason and incremental cost make sense for the vehicle you plan to keep. Multiplying one replacement total by the cylinder count can count the same access labor repeatedly.

What makes injector access labor expensive?

Components between the technician and the injector can increase the job. RepairPal describes repairs requiring intake-manifold removal and, on some applications, fluids and additional engine-component removal. Ask the shop to identify what must come off your particular engine.

A good comparison keeps the part scope and access work aligned. If one estimate includes removal, new sealing parts and required follow-up while another lists only an injector and basic installation, ask for matching totals. The difference may be in scope rather than the price of the injector itself.

Can cleaning replace injector replacement?

Cleaning is worth discussing when the confirmed problem is contamination that the chosen process can address. Bosch describes professional ultrasonic cleaning of high-pressure injectors to remove combustion residues while protecting the nozzle and valve parameters. Its documentation describes a specific service process, not a promise that a fuel-tank additive repairs any failing injector.

Ask what finding supports cleaning and how the shop will verify improvement. If the injector requires replacement, ask why cleaning would not address that failure. For the broader symptom and cleaner questions, use the existing fuel-injection symptoms and diagnosis guide.

Could manufacturer coverage reduce what I pay?

Check your VIN with the manufacturer or its authorized dealer before paying. A concrete example is American Honda’s May 2022 notice for affected 2015-2016 Fit vehicles. It extends fuel-injector coverage to 10 years from original purchase or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first, for the described condition.

That notice applies to affected Fit vehicles and its stated failure conditions. It does not establish coverage for a Civic, Camry or all injectors. As of October 2026, the original purchase date matters especially for a 2015 or 2016 vehicle; obtain a current eligibility answer rather than assuming a published notice remains available to your car.

NHTSA’s recall tool explains that its VIN search does not display manufacturer customer-service or other non-safety campaigns. Check open safety recalls there, then ask the manufacturer separately about coverage or a service campaign. A zero-recall result answers only the recall question.

Common questions

Does a fuel-pump problem mean the injectors need replacement too?

Ask for separate test findings. A fuel-pump replacement estimate addresses a different component; include injector replacement only when its own diagnosis supports it.

Does every injector replacement require coding?

Ask about your engine’s procedure. Bosch describes coding where required, which supports confirming the application rather than assuming a universal rule.

Can I buy injectors first and have a shop fit them?

Confirm the diagnosis, exact part number and shop’s supplied-part policy first. Ask who handles an incorrect part or an unsuccessful repair before purchasing.

Can a seal leak without the injector itself failing?

Fel-Pro’s inspection checklist includes injector O-rings as fuel-system leak inspection points. Ask whether the failed item is a seal, an injector or another fuel-system component.

Is injector replacement a good first DIY repair?

RepairPal recommends professional replacement because of fuel-fire risk and potentially complex access work. Have a qualified technician establish the repair rather than using an online price as a disassembly plan.

Bottom line: Compare the same injector quantity and installation scope, price additional injectors by their added cost, and check manufacturer eligibility before paying.
